Weekend winter hike

Yesterday I went on a short winter hike and brought along the camera. In the photo above, we added the eyes, but the mouth was already there!

This owl has a wing disability and can't fly, and the forest preserve workers take care of it.

We're supposed to get 2 feet of snow within the next two days. I'm not looking forward to it.

Off to work I go!

  1. Amy, I love these photos and they make me realize how overdue I am for a winter walk in the woods! A local nature preserve has an owl in captivity, too. They are so magnificent and incredible to see up close.

  2. Beautiful photos, Amy. I especially like the berries and the "dry" flowers.

  4. What a funny looking owl! At least you have berries showing, we have NADA, but the snow here is already melting, jippie!
    Good luck at work!

  6. Beautiful pictures! The first one made me smile. The photos of the great horned-owl reminded me of a time that I pet an owl just like him at a wildlife rehab centre. He was hissing the whole time and I was terrified it would bite me, but I did it any way, he didn't bite, and it was totally worth it! Have a great week!
