Foods I've never tried and everyone else has.

I came across this photo on foodgawker- which is the best site, by the way. There are all these wonderful photos of food (anyone can submit a photo) and you click on them and are led to the recipes. Anyway, I saw this photo of Baked Eggs with Garlic Sauteed Chard and Polenta. Looks good, doesn't it? It got me thinking about how I've never tried polenta. It also got me making a list of foods I've never tried but I'm sure everyone else has. Here are some foods from the list:

1. polenta
2. sushi (it's true!)
3. curry
4. gnocchi
5. I finally tried lobster for the first time about a year ago and BARF (I guess this shouldn't be on the list).
6. mussels
7. nutella- there is a chance I tried a dab of this at my mom's house a while back since I remember seeing it there and talking about how I'd never tried it, but I have no recollection of tasting it.
8. beer

How about you? Is there anything you've never tried and have no desire to do so?

P.S. Find the recipe photographed above here.

  1. I don't like eggs at all so that doesn't look very good to me. If it were a bowl of Garlic Sauteed Chard and Polenta, I'd love it! :)

You must try sushi! My favorite!

    And curry... SO GOOD!

I've never had gnocchi or polenta either. I've also never had quinoa or champagne. Both are on my list of things to try this summer!

  2. Beer! Wow. It is an acquired taste, I'll give you that. But you need to get your hands on some Nutella and curry stat. (Although not together, that's gross.)

P.S. I've never tried polenta, either.

  3. Except for the beer and mussels, everything on your list is a favorite of mine...and I just mastered the art of making gnocchi this week. Polenta is great, if made correctly. Don't want it mushy!

  5. i tried gnocci for the first time last week and, yuk...but I'm willing to give it a second shot at maybe a better restaurant. As for your lobster experience...I'd give that another shot. If cooked properly its divine...if not, yuk. It's a fine line!

  6. Nutella is a gift from above! My fav way to eat it is as a sandwich with pb and marshmallow creme. Well, that is besides sticking my finger in the jar!

  8. I have tried curry and nutella and highly recommend both (though not at the same time). I have not tried anything else on your list if you can believe that! None of them are very high on my "to try" list either.

I eat pretty much everything so i'll have to think for a while about what I've missed out on.

  10. They had frog legs at a local fish fry a few weeks ago, and my husband brought some home because he thought it would be fun to try them. I just couldn't do it- I kept picturing Kermit singing "it's not easy being green."

  11. 1) Eggplant: if God had intended me to eat purple vegetables, She would have made them all that colour!

    2) Grits. I can't imagine.

    3) Pickled eggs. *shudder*

  12. Hey Amy - you do know me! LOL. I'm "slacker" Susan :). I would have used my own name but I think I need to set up an acct or somehting. Anyway, my homemade gnocchi were great but if you overcook them...ummm...they are a lot less great. And Sarah lives on Nutella. LIVES I tell you!

  14. Amy I'll give you my honest opinion - we have a lot in common but I don't know if we like the same foods:
    1. polenta - mushy, not much flavor, didn't like the texture, however you and Vickie like pastina, so you might like it.
    2. sushi (it's true!) - gross - hate it - had it once.
    3. curry - a good spice for chicken salad (with chutney), used in Indian dishes a lot - I like it
    4. gnocchi - a cross between potatoes and pasta - very starchy - not bad if you have the right sauce.
    5. I finally tried lobster for the first time about a year ago and BARF (I guess this shouldn't be on the list). - I like lobster tails!!
    6. mussels - horrible - not into most seafood (except lobster!)
    7. nutella- there is a chance I tried a dab of this at my mom's house a while back since I remember seeing it there and talking about how I'd never tried it, but I have no recollection of tasting it. - good - chocolately, nutty flavor
    8. beer - like liquid vomit to me.

  15. I have not tried eggplant yet but I keep meaning too oh and pickled beets...it sounds gross but a friend of mine keeps telling me I MUST try it...

Foods I refuse to try...pickled pigs feet, pickled eggs, and Pork Brains (it is real and people eat it in scrambled eggs!) All foods that I have been 'introduced' to while visiting my husbands family in the South...

  16. ive never tried polenta either and im not familiar with it...

foods i dont like to try? probably exotic animals like snakes or frogs (although i always hear they taste like chicken), im usually open to try a new food, but i'm not very brave on eating weird animals:) and that's why i will never join fear factor ever! hehehe
