Attempt #1

I'm a little scared to show this picture because I know a lot of people who crochet read this blog! Anyway, this is my first granny square in probably 15 years. It took me way too long, and, yes, there are mistakes! I still have to weave in my loose ends, but you get the idea. I went with a 100% cotton yarn because I liked the crisp look, but the weight I ended up choosing is still thicker than I would have liked. I'm stuck with it now! It's hard to see but the cream color kind of reminds me of vanilla ice cream- it is a natural yarn and has tiny little brown dots reminiscent of the vanilla beans you can sometimes see in ice cream.

I'll be sure to post more progress (as long as it's not too embarrassing!).

  3. I think it looks great- first try or not! Your colors are wonderful and I can see now that using cotton makes a big difference when crocheting. I've used wool when crocheting (infrequently) and it never looked as crisp as that!

  6. I think it looks fabulous! I also am a horrible yarn art kinda girl, knitting, crocheting, sewing all evade me. I'm AWFUL! Kudos to you to for giving it a go and sharing it with the blog world!

  7. Looks good to me and I like the colors :) I crochet a bit. A few years back my friend taught me and I went crazy with it. I made like 20 scarves for Christmas gifts! Needless to say I suffered some burnout after that.

  17. Fabulous color choices! I really need to learn granny squares. They look so fun!

I actually bought one of those "Teach yourself to crochet" books the other day. So far, I've mastered single crochet. Getting ready to move on to the next lesson!

Maybe I'll have the guts to post my progress. Maybe not.
